John Norman Propes
John Norman Propes, 91, of Simpsonville, past away on Tuesday, January 8th, 2019 while at home surrounded by his family.
He was the son of the late Clifford and Velma Propes. Norman was born in Attalla, Alabama and was raised in Guntersville, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Frances Slatton Propes.
He is survived by daughters Norma Raines (Rick), and Patti Horton (Bruce); a son John Richard Propes (Kimberly); three grandchildren, Millie R Wooten (Neil), John Daniel Propes (Taylor), and Emily Propes Davey (Adam); great grandchildren, Allison Wooten, JT Wooten and baby Hampton Davey due in March.
He was a strong Christian man who served as an Elder in the Church for many years and was loved by everyone who knew him. He was a 3 time National Grand Champion hydroplane boat racer. For many years he served as the Vice President of the Greenville Jaycees. He worked for 30 plus years selling trucks for International Harvester. He enjoyed remote control plane flying, building and racing anything with an engine. He was a M.A.R.S. Ham Radio Operator who spend a lot of his time allowing military members to communicate with their families before cell phones. He also loved Alabama Football and has many beloved cousins still in Alabama.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 7:00 pm at Riverside Church of Christ, 1015 North Main St, Greer, SC 29651.
