Jeff Roland Richardson
Former South Carolina State Senator Jeff Roland Richardson, Junior passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015 at his home in Simpsonville.
Born May 2, 1929, he was the son of the late Maude Blakely and Jeff Roland Richardson. Jeff was married to the late Florence Evans McKenzie for fifty six years.
Surviving are his sister, Helen Richardson; his daughters Lyn Richardson (Mrs. Charles) Furrh, Katherine Richardson, and Caroline Richardson Mahaffey; and grandchildren Katherine Elizabeth (Mrs. Ronald) Oliveri, Michael Thomas Mahaffey, Jane Furrh (Mrs. Charles) Morrow, Anne Caroline (Mrs. Harrison) Woodworth, Mary Elaine Mahaffey, Rebecca Jane (Mrs. Michael) Weldon, Sarah Margaret (Mrs. Ryan) Mundy, and Richard Wylie Mahaffey.
He was predeceased by his sister Hannah Richardson.
A graduate of Simpsonville High School and Furman University, Jeff served in the United States Army before returning to Simpsonville where he joined his father at the Jeff Richardson Company. An avid hunter and cattleman, Jeff raised nationally acclaimed field trial dogs and Angus cattle, and was inducted in to the South Carolina Angus Association Hall of Fame. A strong belief that more is expected of those who have been blessed led to a lifetime of public service. He taught youth boys Sunday School at Simpsonville United Methodist Church and was one of the first Scout Masters of Simpsonville BSA Troop 158. He served as Chairman of the Simpsonville Area Chamber of Commerce and Simpsonville 2001. Jeff was President of the Greenville County Historical Society and Chairman of the Greenville County Republican Party.
The family is at the home, 1322 N.E. Main Street, Simpsonville, SC.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 4 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church Simpsonville, 3 Hedge Street, Simpsonville, SC. Services will be Wednesday, August 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of First Baptist Church Simpsonville, with burial following at Simpsonville City Cemetery.
