Gary G. Knudtson
Gary Knudtson, 73, of Simpsonville passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, he was the son of the late Jack Knudtson and Helen McFeely.
He is survived by a daughter Gretchen Elizabeth Pate (Travis) of Centennial, CO; and one sister Gwendolyn Ford (Ray) of Simpsonville.
My brother-in-law Gary will be missed. He made friends easily.
I was fortunate to know Gary through his sister, Gwen, and her husband. Ray. He was a magnet to your interests, to your conversation, and to making anyone feel at ease. He was very knowledgeable and could converse freely about all things. Even though our friendship was not lengthy, I shall miss Gary and his sincerity and his quick witt and his charm. Rest in peace, Dear Friend.

I only met Gary briefly once. We didn’t talk long but I could tell that he was charming and kind. I have had the pleasure of knowing many of his family members, they are all excellent people and had wonderful things to say about him. To have known and loved some wonderful people, and to survive in their hearts. what better mark is there of a life well lived? Rest in peace Gary, I look forward to meeting again someday.
The news of Gary’s passing was a devastating shock. He was a kind, warm man always ready to talk. My favorite memories were of him showing off his garden, all of the flowers and different peppers he was able to grow. When I was a child he sprouted a little avocado seed for me and showed how to test the dirt and rotate it everyday so all of the leaves would get enough sun. Rest easy Uncle Gooey, I look forward to seeing your garden again one day
He taught me the glory of howling at the moon. I’ve never looked up into the night sky without thinking of Goo. He’ll always be a shining star. I miss him terribly and will love him always.
Gary was my beloved brother! & his passing was a terrible shock! My heart is so broken. He was an avid, & gifted gardener, loved music (especially the Beatles, & the Eagles)! He loved to read, & he was a gifted artist! I shall miss him for the rest of my life!
Rest eternal grant unto him, & let light perpetual shine upon him! May the soul of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace!🙏🙏
Gary called me on holidays, during fund drives, and just to say hello from time-to-time. He loved music, and I loved playing it for him on the radio. I’ve never even seen his face, but I have voicemails he left me and a card he sent just a couple weeks before he passed… I will keep them forever. Gary touched my heart, and I’ll always think of him when I play the Moody Blues, Bob Dylan, and the Desert Rose Band. “Gary from South Carolina” will forever be in my vocabulary. I feel so grateful for the chats we had. And, Gwen, I am so sorry.
The next one’s for you, Gary… -Melaina Nielson from Laramie, Wyoming
