Elizabeth Varn Woods
Mrs. Elizabeth Varn Woods, age 94, formerly of Varnville, entered into rest Thursday afternoon, December 27, 2018, while surrounded by her loving family at Carlyle Senior Care in Simpsonville. She was the widow of the late Mr. Sidney Franklin Varn and the late Fay Woods.
Born September 28, 1924, in Mariana, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Joe Perry Patrick and the late Laura Belle Gooding Patrick. She was the owner of Lisbeth’s Dress Shop in Varnville in a number of years. She opened Elizabeth’s Gift Shop in Hampton, which became a beloved icon to the locals of her community. She loved children, and had volunteered at the Varnville Grammar School, where she would spend her time reading to children. She was also very devoted to the Girl Scouts. She was a member of Varnville United Methodist Church, where she was active in many aspects of the church’s work and spent a great deal of time working closely with the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Following the death of Mr. Sidney Varn, she met and married Mr. Fay Woods and together they lived in Grays for a number of years. After making Beaufort her home, she moved her membership to Saint Helena Baptist Church. Mrs. Woods moved to The Springs Assisted Living in Simpsonville in November of 2017 and lived there unit August 2018, when she was moved to Carlyle Senior Care.
Surviving are: her children, Janet Varn Miley of Beaufort, Linda Varn Owens and her husband Tony of Varnville, Sidney F. Varn, Jr. and his wife Sonny of Lexington, James William “Jimmy” Varn and his wife Kathy of Ridgeland, and Cindy Varn Jarrell and her husband Curt of Simpsonville. There are thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren that also survive.

The relatives and friends of Mrs. Elizabeth Varn Woods are invited to attend her funeral services at 2:30pm Wednesday afternoon, January 2, 2019, from Varnville First Baptist Church, 165 East Palmetto Avenue, Varnville. The Reverend Dr. Tommy Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in Varnville Cemetery, Pine Street, Varnville.
The family will receive friends during a time of visitation prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 1 o’clock that afternoon in the church sanctuary.
