Charles John Miley, III
Mr. Charles John Miley, III, known by all as “Johnny”, age 75, of Beaufort, entered into eternal rest following an extended illness Monday morning, September 11, 2017, with his family at his side.
Funeral services will be held 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon, September 16, 2017, from Community Bible Church, 638 Parris Island Gateway, Beaufort. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o’clock in the church sanctuary. Mr. Miley will be laid to rest during a family ceremony.
Born August 29, 1942, a son of the late Charles John Miley, Jr. and the late Mary Alice Deer Miley, he was raised in Fairfax, South Carolina. He graduated from Allendale/Fairfax High School and shortly after began working for Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Donnelley at Ashepoo Plantation, Green Pond, SC. Johnny Miley began a career that spanned nearly forty-five years, starting as the Assistant Manager and retiring as the Manager in 2013. Ashepoo Planation was his life and he was instrumental in its layout, formation, and management. He was very close to the Donnelley family and was treated like one of their family. He loved his work and was a true conservationist. Johnny loved hunting and fishing and everything outdoors. A beloved icon at Bennett’s Point, he was known as a friend who was always willing to help and reach out to others.
He was a member of Community Bible Church in Beaufort, SC.
The family would like to thank Agape Hospice of Beaufort for the care and love that they gave Johnny.
Surviving are: the love and light of his life for fifty-four years, Mrs. Janet Varn Miley, whom he married February 24, 1963; two children, Charles John “Jay” Miley, IV and his wife Dana Riddleberger Miley of Charleston and Christy Miley Murdaugh and her husband Randolph “Randy” Murdaugh, IV of Hampton; two brothers, Robert Miley and his wife Margaret of Brunson and Billy Miley and his wife Rae of Brunson; and a sister, Beverley Miley Allen of Sycamore. There are four grandchildren, Brandon Miley, Jana Miley, Mary Elizabeth Murdaugh, and Caroline Murdaugh; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Varn Woods of Beaufort that also survive.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following: Community Bible Church, 638 Parris Island Gateway, Beaufort, South Carolina 29906; or to Agape Hospice of Beaufort, 907 Boundary Street Beaufort, South Carolina 29902; or to Bennett’s Point Fire Department c/o Jim Bryan, 123 Bennett Point, Green Pond, South Carolina 299446.
