Charles Boyd Patterson
Charles B. Patterson, 79, of Greer, husband of Linda Wilson Patterson, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, October 2, 2023.
Born in Statesville, NC, Mr. Patterson was a son of the late Harry & Kathleen Patterson. He moved to the Upstate of SC in 1968 and retired from Yellow Freight in 2008.
Mr. Patterson was a long-time, active member of Cross Roads Baptist Church in Greer. He served on the Board of Trustees and as president of his Sunday school class. Mr. Patterson was perhaps best known as a greeter and usher; he did not like to miss a Sunday and would rush back from vacations to return to church.
Having learned gardening and farming skills from his dad and grandfather, Mr. Patterson cultivated a large vegetable garden of his own. He kept family and friends well supplied every summer, despite the persistent efforts of resident squirrels and deer.
In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by his children, Lisa Painter, Traci (Jay) Williams, and Jason (Jessie) Patterson; three grandchildren, Joshua (Mallory) Sorrells, Nathan (Jessica) Painter, and Alex Williams; four great-grandchildren, Dawson Sorrells, Maddox Sorrells, Wrenlee Sue Painter, and Oaklee Woods; and one brother, Gayle Patterson.
Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Patterson, and Larry Patterson.
Mr. Patterson never met a stranger and could be found cutting up with his weekly breakfast group. He enjoyed serving loved ones through his carpentry skills, mowing a neighbor’s lawn, and lending a hand however it was needed. As a husband, father, and neighbor, Mr. Patterson embodied what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 11:00 am at Cross Roads Baptist Church, 705 Anderson Ridge Rd, Greer, SC 29651 with Pastor Jack Eason officiating. A graveside service will follow at Cannon-Byrd Memorial Park, 1150 North Main Street, Fountain Inn, SC 29644.
The family will receive friends at the church starting at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: Cross Roads Baptist Church, Building Fund, 705 Anderson Ridge Rd, Greer, SC 29651.
