Bill Hampton McWhite
Bill Hampton McWhite, 94, of Simpsonville, beloved husband of Betty Jo Morgan McWhite for 68 years, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, December 27, 2021.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late John Chester & Beulah Foster McWhite. Mr. McWhite was a member of Holly Ridge Baptist Church where he sang in the choir for many years. He retired from Delta Woodside Furman Plant. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded a purple heart. He enjoyed gospel music, sports (especially the Braves and the Carolina Gamecocks), and gardening.
Mr. McWhite is survived by his wife, daughters, Vicki Lanford, and Beth Helms (Kenneth); grandchildren, Austin Helms, Kendall H. Hernandez (Jonathan); a great-grandchild, Aiden Hernandez; and a sister, Marselle Hall.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Richard Michael Lanford; sisters, Katherine Bayne and Edith Brooks; and a brother, James Chester “JC” McWhite.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 11:00 am at Holly Ridge Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Josh Culbertson. Interment will follow in Graceland East Memorial Park with military honors.
Due to COVID, the family will not receive friends, but Mr. McWhite will be available at the church for friends wishing to view and offer respects for one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: Holly Ridge Baptist Church, Building Fund, 260 Adams Mill Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681 or The Center for Community Services Food Bank, 1102 Howard Drive, Simpsonville, SC 29681.
