Betty J. Roe

Betty Johnson Roe, 78, of Greenville, SC, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025. Born in Lancaster, SC, she was a daughter of the late Furman and Victoria McMackin Johnson.

Her favorite name was Mimi, by far. She adored her grandchildren, and they will forever cherish the memories they have with her. If she knew you, you weren’t considered a stranger you were considered a friend. She loves helping others even if it meant she would be without. Some would say she was one of a kind and she truly was, there will never be another person to compare. She was always honest and spoke her mind. She wasn’t concerned about what people thought of her. She loved to read and loved anything craft related. She refurnished furniture and started to make leather earrings that she would sell at boutiques and salons.  She also loved spending time with friends and family while sitting on her porch swing, at her kitchen table, or going out to eat.  She loved her goodwill trips on Tuesdays and looked forward to seeing her friends there. She was a feisty lady that made friends everywhere.  She has left a huge void in the lives of her loved ones.  She will be missed deeply.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Tonya Moss (Jim) and Aimee Pennell (Mark); four grandchildren, Mckenna Moss, Brandon Roe, Taylor Roe, and Mark S. Pennell; and her best friend, Shirley Allen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jerry ‘Chris’ Roe; brother, Albert ‘Ben’ Johnson; and the father of her children, Jerry McCarter Roe.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Cannon-Byrd Funeral Home. A Memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Cannon-Byrd Funeral Home Chapel.

I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. She was such a loving and giving person and I know all of you will miss her. She was always a great sister-in-law to me. I loved her very much.

  • My friend for over 50 years, Betty was, as the sweet tribute states, one of a kind. I loved her and have so many happy memories of time spent with her. She will be remembered as a giver of herself, her time, the shirt off her back if you needed it. My heart hurts for the friends and family she left behind. Continued prayers.

  • Aimee and Tonya, I am so sorry for your loss. Please know our love and prayers are with you! Nell @ His Radio
