Amy Jewel Barbrey

Amy Jewell Barbrey, 88, of Greenville, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025.

Born and raised in Fountain Inn, SC she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Ruby Barbrey. She moved to Greenville with her family as a teenager and lived in Union Bleachery. Amy was the oldest of her three siblings and loved the responsibility of helping care for her younger siblings. She was a graduate of Parker High School class of 1955 and a graduate from Draughon’s College where she received a degree in Business. After college, she pursued a career at Southern Bell Telephone company as an Engineering Assistant. Later in life she was a small-business owner and entrepreneur with her former husband and life-long friend Joseph Quinn.

Amy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young-teenager. She upheld Christian values throughout her life. She was a devoted and loving mother and Mema to her grand-children and great grand-children; who were her greatest joy and purpose in life. Amy enjoyed the small beautiful things in life and loved to bring a smile to others with her sassy charm. A natural-nurturer, she was well loved by all that knew her. You could find her listening to Elvis Presley, eating a Reese’s cup while drinking a Pepsi, putting on her lipstick, or dancing! Amy was always on the go and found great purpose in helping others whenever she was able. As she got older, she lived out her life at Patewood; a long-term care facility. She loved the staff and fellow-residents and the opportunity to form relationships with them.

Amy’s legacy lives on through all that knew and adored her sweet irreplaceable spirit. She leaves behind many years of fun-loving memories with no-dull moments. She was extremely grateful to live a long and full life with strength, grit, and determination.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Quinn; grandchildren, Amber (William) Barber, Dustin (Amber) Williams, Wilson (Lauren) Baker and Brandi (Michael) Gabrel; great grandchildren, William Zayne Barber, Judson Xander Barber and Michael Quinn Gabrel; siblings, George Barbrey and Jeanette Smith and a sister-in-law Louise Barbrey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death brother, Glenn Barbrey.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Cannon-Byrd Funeral Home on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 3:00 PM at 1150 N. Main St. Fountain Inn, SC 29644.  The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 PM.

The family will be at the home of Brandi Gabrel, 4 Mountain Rose Court Simpsonville, SC.

I was so sorry to hear about Aunt Amy’s passing. She was a kind and graceful person, and I feel fortunate to have known her. I hope you find comfort in the many memories and the long, full life she lived. Thinking of you and your family during this time.

I’ve known Amy most of my life due to the friendship her daughter and I shared since we were 15 years old. She was always such a warm loving person. I have many stories I could share, but that will be only after Sharon and I pass as well. I remember her spirit, joy, and compassion to all that crossed her path. Much love to a truly remarkable woman.
