Alta McGeachie
Alta Allen Parsons McGeachie, age 98, widow of the late Andrew Bryan McGeachie, Jr., passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017.
Born in Fountain Inn, she was the daughter of the late Claude Allen and Carrie Elizabeth Templeton Parsons. Mrs. McGeachie graduated from Fountain Inn High School in 1936 and Winthrop College in 1940. Upon graduating, she took a job with the U.S. Army in ballistics research at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, Maryland, where she met her husband, Andy. While living in Washington, DC during World War II, she worked at the Pentagon. After the war, she and Andy moved to Fountain Inn, where she taught math and physics at Hillcrest High School for 17 years. Mrs. McGeachie was a member of Fountain Inn Presbyterian Church for 85 years where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Presbyterian Women.
Mrs. McGeachie is survived by two sons, Andrew Bryan McGeachie, III and wife Sharon, and Michael Allen McGeachie and wife Barbara; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Anne McGeachie, Erin Marie McGeachie, and Caroline Grace McGeachie; two great-grandchildren, Camryn Marie McGeachie-Dorrell and Pierce Danger Aguilar; and a sister-in-law, Dot Cooper Parsons. She was predeceased by a brother, William Baylis Parsons.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Fountain Inn Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM in the church parlor prior to the service. A private committal service will be held later.
