John Wesley Sotelo

Sotelo, John Wesley, age 68, of Mauldin, husband of Cathie Sotelo of 45 years, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 13, 2017.

Memorial service: Thursday, January 19 at 1:00PM at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

John was born June 25, 1948 in Lynwood, California to Shirley Peavler and the late John Jones. He was the oldest of his siblings Charles, Teresa and Cheryl. Mr. Sotelo graduated Covina High School in 1966 and married Cathie Jean Nolen on August 7, 1971. He graduated from Bob Jones University with a BA in church history in 1975. John and Cathie attended Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church and have four children. John just celebrated his 30th year working at Wabtec.

He is survived by his wife, Cathie Nolen Sotelo, of Greenville, SC; his children, Timothy John Sotelo, and his wife, Kristin, of Chattanooga, TN, Rebekah Joy Bennett, and her husband, Jake, of St. Louis, MO, Stephen John Sotelo of Atlanta, GA, and Matthew John Sotelo and his wife, Marina, of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, William John, Joshua Warren and Abigail Leigh Sotelo of Chattanooga, TN, Anna Katherine, Micah John, Elizabeth Joy and Lydia Ruth Bennett of St. Louis, MO; his mother, Shirley Peavler, of Green Valley, AZ; sisters, Teresa Roudabush and her husband, Herb, of Green Valley, AZ, and Cheryl Buckner and her husband, Roy, of Clever, MO.

John was preceded in death by his father(s) John Jones and Frank Sotelo and a brother, Charles Sotelo.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the Deacon’s Fund at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church “to help those in need.”

John was a loving husband and father. He was strong in body, in spirit and in faith. He lived his life trusting the Lord and supporting his family in love.
