Barbara Eischens-Gunter

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Barbara Eischens-Gunter, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Barb passed away on July 5, 2023, after a valiant and courageous nine-month battle with Stage 4 Colon Cancer at the young age of 56 years old.

Born in Park Rapids, Minnesota, on January 13, 1967, Barb was the cherished daughter of the late Leonard and Audrey (Kolarsky) Eischens. Growing up on a farm just outside of Park Rapids with her six siblings, Barb’s spirited nature and zest for life were evident from a young age. As a middle child, she was greatly influenced by her older siblings and fearlessly embraced their mischievous adventures. From swimming in leech-infested creeks to sliding down manure piles on feed sacks, Barb was always ready to join in on the fun. As a responsible older sister, she frequently cared for her three younger siblings and lovingly shared a double bed with her youngest sister until the older children moved out.

Barb embraced life with boundless joy and an adventurous spirit. Exploring the world, whether it was traveling to distant lands or enjoying the serenity of Oak Island, North Carolina’s sandy shores, which brought her immense happiness. Her creative spirit found expression through crafting, where she produced magnificent works of art through scrapbooking or creating decorations for her children’s/grandchildren’s birthdays and weddings.  She also had a love for sports. You could often find her and Keith at Clemson during football season tailgating with friends or traveling to other states to watch various sporting events.

However, above all else, Barb’s heart belonged to her family and friends. Every precious moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and siblings were treasured beyond measure. Barb’s unwavering care and compassion knew no bounds, as she consistently went above and beyond for those she loved, including mischievously trying to surprise visit those she loved. Her genuine kindness, deep empathy, and unconditional love left an indelible mark on the lives of many.

Alongside her personal interests, Barb had a deep commitment to helping others. She dedicated her time to various non-profit organizations, including Labor of Love Transport Rescue and Greenville County Animal Care, where she fostered numerous dogs. However, her strongest calling came through founding a chapter of Best Christmas Ever in Simpsonville, SC, following the tragic loss of her grandson Lucas to cancer. Barb’s dedication to providing joy and support to families in need during the holiday season showcased her selflessness and compassionate nature.

Barb is survived by her loving husband, Keith, and their children: Erica Valenti (Justin), Kyle Mikesh (Alisha), Kilee-ann Luna (Mike), Jaymee Gunter, and Zachary Gunter. She will forever be remembered as a devoted grandmother to Mason Valenti, Madilyn Valenti, Leo Mikesh, Ava Luna, and Jase Luna. Additionally, she is survived by her three sisters, three brothers, 15 nieces and nephews, and her fur baby, Renfrow. Barb was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Lucas Mikesh.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 2nd, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at 31427 Mallard Bay Rd, Park Rapids, MN 56470.
