James Frank Byrd

James Frank Byrd, 87, widower of Shirley Ann Potts Byrd, of Pelzer, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Sunday, May 21, 2023.  Born in Marietta, GA, James was a son of the late Charlie Frank and Mary Magdalene Cagle Byrd.

James is survived by his daughter, Gloria J. Luna of Pelzer; his son, James F. Byrd, Jr of Cookeville, TN; four grandchildren, Jonathan Luna and his wife, Katelyn, Meagan Granbois and her husband, Garrett; Melanie Stoutt and her husband, Trevor, and Morgan Byrd; eleven great grandchildren; two brothers, Rayford Byrd of Marietta, GA, and Jack Byrd of Dallas, GA; and a sister, Mary Gilmore of Acworth, GA.

In addition to his wife and parents, James was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Claud Luna and his brother, Charles Byrd.

A visitation will be on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Heritage Funeral Home beginning at 1:00 pm.  The Funeral Service will follow in the chapel at Heritage Funeral Home at 2:00 pm.  Click here to watch the service

Burial will be on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Chattahoochee Baptist Church, 375 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA 30068 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 213 West Curtis Street, Simpsonville, SC 29681.

  • James and my husband were in the same Sunday School class for several years. He also sat near us during the preaching service every Sunday. He was a very kind, gentle man that we felt honored to know. I will keep all of his family in my prayers.
