Rosemary M. Woundy

Rosemary M Woundy, 76, of Simpsonville South Carolina departed this world and travelled to her heavenly home on 3/31/2023.  Rose was the daughter of the late John F. DeFelice and Mary M. (Sette) DeFelice and the step-daughter of the late Eleanor (Rae) DeFelice.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bruce R Woundy; her children Richard Woundy and wife Jodi of Philadelphia PA, Thomas Woundy and his wife Maureen of Marlborough MA, Melissa Woundy of Beacon Falls CT, and the daughter of her heart Carla (D’Amato) Woundy of North Reading MA; her grandchildren Rebecca (Woundy) Prince and her husband Matthew of Dracut MA, Nathan Woundy and his wife Carolina of North Reading MA, Michael Woundy and his wife Taylor of Wake Forest NC, and Violet Woundy of New York, NY; and her five great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brothers John DeFelice Jr. and his wife Gwen of Presque Isle ME, and Martin DeFelice of Meriden CT, and her sister Mary Jo (DeFelice) Reiss and her husband Martin of Northbridge MA, as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sister Nancy (DeFelice) Fletcher and her brother Joseph DeFelice.

Rose was born in New Haven CT and grew up in Woodbridge CT, where she attended Amity Regional High School. She went on to attend Albertus Magnus College.  After marrying Bruce, they lived in New Haven where she enjoyed work as a library assistant at the New Haven Public Library. They moved to Prospect CT where they raised their children.  There she attended Bethel Baptist Church, worked as a library assistant in the elementary school library, and was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department.  In 1984, she achieved a lifelong desire to become a nurse when she completed her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse through the W.F. Kaynor Technical High School’s Practical Nurse Education Program.  She scored a perfect score on her state licensure exam and become employed as an L.P.N. at Elim Park where she spent happy years helping those in need.  She continued to use her nursing skills while working at Racebrook Pharmacy. After retirement, she and Bruce spent over 10 happy years living in Hobe Sound FL where they made many friends in their neighborhood and in their church, Grace Place. In 2017, they moved to Simpsonville SC and enjoyed the company of friends, family, and the fellowship of Renovation Church in Simpsonville.

Over the course of her life, Rose enjoyed drawing, spending time on their boat docked at Middle Cove Marina in Essex CT, and had an amateur radio license.  Throughout the years, Rose loved playing her guitar, piano, and singing. She participated in her high school’s folk singing club, sang for her family, and in the churches she attended.  She was a wise spiritual mentor who used good discernment and was a great listener and friend to those that knew her.  Her prayer list was extensive as she actively prayed for family, friends, and many others.

The family would like to extend their deep thanks to Renovation Church of Simpsonville for their care, meals, and support over the past months and her special caregivers Karen and Robin from Synergy Healthcare. Also, they wish to thank the staff from Lutheran Hospice for their compassionate assistance during Rose’s last days.

A visitation will be held at Renovation Church, 611 Richardson Street, Simpsonville SC on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 6:30 pm with a memorial service following at 7:00 pm. Further memorial services and private burial to take place at a later date in her home state of Connecticut.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rosemary’s name can be made to HealthWell Foundation which provided her grants that substantially covered her medications.
