Richard George Sebastian

Richard (Dick) George Sebastian, age 87, of Simpsonville, passed away and went to be with his Lord, on January 17th, 2023. A private family celebration will be held at Cannon-Byrd Funeral Home in Fountain Inn SC with interment following in the memorial park.  

Dick was born on January 10, 1936 in Detroit, MI, to Victor and Raphal Sebastian. He grew up in Detroit and eventually moved to Pennsylvania. Dick served in the US Army from 1953-57, including overseas service in Germany. He specialized in transportation and logistics during his career. He retired in 2008, as the co-founder of SebKal Transportation, with his daughter, Vickie. The business has become Dick’s legacy and now is owned by his grandson Jarrad.

Dick was a dedicated family man. He loved the holidays and hosting family gatherings. He enjoyed cheering on his home team – the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dick was full of laughter. He enjoyed life, friends and family. He was a committed man of faith and volunteered in service to his home church for many years.

Dick was married in 1958 to Leona Kissel, of Vandergrift PA. They lived in Apollo PA and then Easley SC, until her passing in 2004. He is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Anderson Sebastian of Simpsonville, whose love, devotion, and companionship was wonderful in his later years. They had a beautiful, loving marriage and were married nearly 14 years. He is also survived by his children: Lisa (Lee) Sampson of Marietta GA, Vickie (George) Kalinovich of Pelzer SC, and Kenneth (Tracey) Sebastian of Duluth GA. He also had 6 grandchildren: Kara (Nick) Taylor of Decatur GA, Chase (Alexis) Sampson of Los Angeles CA, Jarrad (Catherine) Kalinovich of Easley SC, Anna Leigh (Andy) D’Alessio of Easley SC, Cory Sebastian of Duluth GA, and Kelsey Sebastian of Atlanta GA, and 8 great-grandchildren. Dick also loved Sue’s children, Kathy Hemmert and Mike Anderson, both of Simpsonville.

    Sue and family,
    We are sorry to hear about Dick. He sure had that infectious smile and laugh!! When I would bring goodies over if he answered the door he had that big smile , I will never forget!! Heaven truly gained an angel. You all are in our prayers always, Ed & Dorothy English
