Marion Shannon Pressley
Our beloved Marion “Shannon” Pressley, 92, of Fountain Inn went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ late Thursday evening, June 30, 2022.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, John Edgar Pressley, Sr.
Mrs. Pressley is survived by her children, Shan Pouliot (Ron), John Pressley Jr. (Tina), Steve Pressley all of Fountain Inn, and Neva Clark (Stan) of Beaufort; grandchildren, Joe Pouliot (Amber), John Pouliot, Kate Gaudet (Lonnie), Kita Pressley, Zane Pressley, Allie Scharfe (Alex), Melanie Ashmore (Charles), Elizabeth Pressley, and Pressley Clark; great-grandchildren, Abigail Pouliot, Madeline Pouliot, Reagan Pouliot, Harley Gaudet, Gauge Gaudet, Alanah Gaudet, Emmett Gaudet, and Josie Ashmore.
Shannon was born in Bethune, a rural northeastern SC town and lived in Midway (between Camden and Bethune). She was the daughter of the late William Beaty & Marion Shannon Stevenson. She grew up in Winnsboro, Marion, and Chester, typical small town SC where everybody knew everybody. We rode bikes, went to the movies (for 9 cents), and had no concerns for safety. The teacher who influenced her most was her first-grade teacher, Neva Shannon “Coota” Montgomery, she was her aunt. She liked reading and history, but books always won out. Shannon graduated from Chester High School in 1947 and then attended Winthrop College with a major in Education as she wanted to be like her daddy and Coota.
Shannon and John got married November 10, 1948 and moved to Columbia where she worked in the engineering department at Southern Bell until she and Papa John started a family. She loved family and family time the best, birthdays’, Christmas’, vacations, reunions, school events, she always went. For many years she made her special birthday cake for her family. This recipe has been passed down to each generation. She was converted early in her marriage to a Gamecock although her father was a Clemson graduate. She was an avid fan of the University of South Carolina and enjoyed football, basketball, baseball, and especially softball. She faithfully attended all her children’s events and continued it to her grandchildren. To many she was known as Grandma.
Shannon was a true conservative and believed in this country and taught her family the importance of voting and having a voice. We all know we live in a better place because of her. We look forward to seeing her again.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 5:00 – 6:30 pm at Cannon – Byrd Funeral Home in Fountain Inn.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 11:00 am at Presbyterian Fellowship of Fountain Inn with Pastor Shawn Hevener officiating.

Thank you Joe, she thought the world of you.
Joe…We appreciate your thoughts and prayers. We have many fun memories to share with each other. I am sitting at the table and remember when you were our disc jockey for Kate’s graduation party. She now has a 6 month old named Emmett. Great memories. Life is an exciting trip and mama had a full ride. Thank you for being a part of it! We miss you.
Sincerely,
Shan Pouliot and family
