Joseph Christian Starr

Joseph Christian Starr was reunited with his Gramps when he passed into eternity on Thursday, May 12th. The son of Jim and Wenda Starr, Joey was newly married to Lydia Anne Starr and lived in downtown Greenville near his sister and brother-in-law, Nicki and Simon Haynes.

Born in Greenville on June 1st, 1999, Joey was not only Jim and Wenda’s younger child, he was the youngest of Bob and Charlene Clark’s 9 grandchildren and the 2nd of 5 grandchildren to James and Joanne Starr. Joey grew up at Fellowship Greenville and had recently been attending Summit Church. He was devoted to Jesus Christ and proclaimed his faith publicly in baptism while in high school.

Joey had an early passion for mechanical things. Starting at age 7, he eventually became an expert operator on his dad’s heavy equipment. A 2021 graduate of Liberty University, Joey was a flight instructor at the downtown Greenville airport. He likely pursued the dream to become a pilot as a result of many conversations with his Gramps, Bob Clark, who had been a daring young pilot in high school.

The family will be receiving friends at Fellowship Greenville on Hwy 14 in Greenville beginning at 1pm Wednesday, May 18. A memorial service will follow at 2pm. Click here to view the Live Stream for friends and family who are unable to attend the service. This can be viewed live during the service at 2:00 pm and should remain available online following the service as well.

Joey’s infectious smile, his tender care for his grandparents, his determination, sense of responsibility, and unique whit will remain in our memories. Our lives have been touched by his life – and we look with anticipation to being reunited in Christ.

I was so sorry to hear that Joey had passed away. My heart is sad for his family. I have fond memories of Joey as well as Nikki making me laugh in class at Southside Christian. Joey made me a ceramic animal for my desk that I still have (along with Nikki’s). Nikki gave me one first and then it was a competition for Joey to make me one too. Good memories! My prayers are going out to your family.
