Katherine “Katie” Anne Melson
Katie A. Melson, 31, of Simpsonville, wife of Jimmy Melson and mother of Van Alexander Melson, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2020.
She was a wonderfully devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a dedicated farmer, gardener and beekeeper. Relationships with those she loved were most important and she adored staying active with her family and friends.
She impacted the lives of everyone she met, and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Born in Aiken, SC, she was the daughter of Anne Lomas Stange and the late Kenneth W. Stange.
In addition to her husband, Jimmy, and son, Van, Katie is survived by her mother, Anne Stange; her brother, Kenny Stange and his wife, Stephanie; her brother-in-laws, Kirk Melson and his wife, Weslyn, and their son, Rivers, and John Melson and his wife, Tiffany; and her in-laws, Kirk and Edie Melson.
Katie was incredibly proud of her husband’s service in the Marine Corps and wore the title of military spouse with honor. She supported all those who served and their families.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 1:00 PM in the First Baptist Church Simpsonville Worship Center with Pastor Randy Harling officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Due to COVID-19, mask will be required for those attending the funeral service and everyone is asked to practice “social distancing”.
Burial will be private for the family in the Simpsonville City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the GoFundMe page that has been set up to benefit their son, Van.
We are heartbroken over the loss of your wonderful loved one. May God grant you peace in your berievement.
My heart is broken. I was fortunate to have worked with Katie several years ago. She was smart, cheerful, energetic and that award winning smile always brightened our day. I am praying for your family during this difficult time.

Our hearts are sadden for your loss. We are praying for you and the family.
It broke out sprits to hear of Katie’s passing. We have known the Stange family, Ken, Anne, Kenny and Katie for years. Ken was such a wonderful loving man and Anne held the same values. Those values were passed down to Kenny and Katie in abundance and you can tell from their spirit that family and honor were part of their DNA. We may not have been in touch but we follow with interest, the lives of Kenny and Katie and they somehow felt like family. It breaks our hearts to even be writing these words Katie but know that you left a legacy of love and joy.
Jimmy, we never got to meet you but we knew you through Katie social media posts and it is clear you are a man of servive and sacrifice and you were greatly loved and in turn loving. Our hearts reach out to you and Van.
Anne, Kenny and Jimmy if there is anything we can do for you at this tremendously difficult time please call on us to be of service.
We are so sorry for your loss! May God hold all of you close in these times.
Love and prayers for your family.
Our family offer our deepest sympathy in your loss. We are saddened to hear this. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Anne, Kenny, Jimmy, Paul and Family, my heart is so sad at your loss. Many thoughts and prayers are with you and will continue. May God comfort and strengthen you,
I am so very sorry for this tragic loss that each of you are experiencing. I was notified via text to pray on the day of the accident but did not know who I was praying for, until today. My heart breaks knowing what a sweet person Katie was through her acquaintance awhile back with my son, Nathan who also played basketball with Kenny. My prayers for the Lord’s comfort continue for each of you.
