Thomas Kirkland Jones, Sr.

Thomas K. Jones, 73, of Simpsonville, husband of Edna Susan Baskin-Jones, died on Sunday, August 30, 2020.

Born in Vero Beach, FL, he was a son of the late George & Mabel Kirkland Jones. Mr. Jones was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church.

Tom was an avid runner, reader and learner, always eager to experience new things. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in applied mathematics/computer science. His stint in the Navy as a submariner laid the foundation for his love of travel and his later journeys to Europe. He was a longtime member of the Greenville Track Club, Toastmasters International, and Drinking Liberally, as well as Furman’s OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) program. A very much loved husband, brother, father, grandfather and uncle who will be extremely missed. The world is now a darker place by one golden light. He was one of the smartest, kindest, gentlest humans you could have had the pleasure of knowing.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Jones is survived by his children, Kirk Jones and his wife, Dana, of GA, and Michelle Crenshaw and her husband, Ken, of MS; grandchildren, Lee, Elizabeth, and Gwen Crenshaw, and Ivey Jones; a great-grand-son, Keelan Crenshaw; one brother, George Jones of CA; and a sister, Margaret Jackson and her husband, Bob, of VA.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Ann Jones.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held for family and friends on October 17, 2020 from 10:00-12:00 PM at Pretty Place, Fred W. Symmes Chapel, 100 YMCA Camp Rd, Cleveland, SC 29635.

  • Tom, a friend, a leader, a guide…and the person that incited me to attend Drinking Liberally, sometimes taking me himself to be sure I did not miss it. Now, it is for me to miss him even if from the distance.

Dear Susan and family. Just heard from Jim Roberts (GTC) that Tom died over a year ago. I am so very sorry for your loss. I surely know something of those agonizingly difficult times. I do have happy memories of the running, hiking and camping days that we all shared and even some pictures.
With sadness for you and your family,
    Lynda Molnar
