Robert Benjamin Tanner
Robert Benjamin Tanner, 73, of Simpsonville, SC passed away Monday, May 25, 2020 at his home after a year-long battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme.
Bobby was born May 31, 1946 in Greenville County, SC. He was the son of the late Alfred David Tanner, Jr. and the late Mary Lou Wham Tanner. He was also predeceased by his brother, Alfred David Tanner III.
Surviving are his loving wife of 52 years, Linda Jewell Tanner; two daughters Denise Tanner LaBeck and her husband Kevin of Greenville and Melissa Tanner Horn and her husband William II of Pelzer; a sister-in-law Linda Verdin Tanner of Ware Shoals; two nephews Billy and Robbie; and special lifelong friends Donnie Roberson and Randall Garrison and a group of special neighbors.
Bobby was a retired electrician and farmer; he took great pride in his hay fields. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He was of Baptist faith and attended Clear Spring Baptist Church while he was well. Bobby loved his Lord Jesus Christ and his family. Bobby had a special bond with his wife , his best friend, who he shared hobbies with, and was the most supportive dad in his daughters’ interests. He loved animals and cared for his horses all his life. He loved rodeo and team roping, and was a large part of the team roping community for many years.Bobby was an inspiring and humble man with a big laugh and mischievous grin. He was a man of few words, but people took notice of what he said. He will be missed by many and was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 28, 2020 starting at 12:00 PM at Windy Hill, 2733 E. Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29681. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:30 PM. “Social distancing” guidelines will be encouraged and adherence appreciated. Entombment will be in Graceland East Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Head for the Cure, 1607 Oak Street, Kansas City, MO, 64108 designated to Team Tanner. Head for the Cure’s mission is to raise funds to support clinical research and awareness for all forms of brain cancer.
Linda, Jim and I just heard about Bobby. So sorry to hear it but we were so glad to hear he Loved The Lord and you do have the peace of knowing he is smiling up in heaven.
We are just sorry that we lost contact with you both. we still look back at pictures of the 4 of us and that sweet Denise when we were living in Simpsonville. Know that you and your family will be in our prayers. Love to you all.

I felt a great loss as I learned of Bobby’s death. Distance has not diminished my friendship with and dear love for the two of you. Knowing of his faith in Christ which guarantees eternal life and the love and prayers of your “friends” will hopefully give you peace and comfort now and during the coming time. We wanted to tell you how sorry we are to hear about Bobby. He was such a sweet man. Living across the street from you guys and seeing you both out riding and doing yard work…I remember long ago he worked with my dad who also died from cancer about 20 years ago. It takes a toll. It’s a terrible disease. You are in our thoughts and prayers. He was loved by many !!!

Linda I was so sorry to hear of Bobby’s death. He was one of the nicest people I ever knew.
He was kind and honest and always ready to lend a hand. He taught me how to ride a horse when I was in the 7th grade and we remained friends who rarely saw each other. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
