Doris Evelyn Moon Rogers

Doris Rogers, age 82, passed peacefully from this life after a long battle with Alzheimer’s on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Brookdale Senior Living in Greenville.  She was born in Greenville, SC to the late Alvin and Mattie Lou (Gilbert) Moon.

She graduated from Parker High School in 1954, and worked as a secretary for Duke Power and Fiber Industries in Greenville until becoming employed at Texize Chemicals (now Dow Chemical) in Mauldin, where she worked for over 30 years until retirement.

Doris lived a quiet life and loved watching the birds at her feeders from one of her two favorite spots – her beloved screened porch where so many family and friend meals were enjoyed, or in her back yard swing under the shade of the old oak tree.  She relished reading the daily newspaper from cover to cover and clipping out or discussing certain articles with her neighbors, family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Doris is predeceased by her brother, Donald (Don) Moon.  She is survived and lovingly remembered by her two devoted daughters, Caroline Rogers Finnell (Doug) of Greenville, and Jill Rogers Sutton (Gayle) of Travelers Rest, and two dear granddaughters, Casey Finnell of Summerville and Sophie Finnell of Greenville.

Caroline and Jill wish to particularly express their gratitude to all those who provided loving care and compassion to their mother over the past 4 years – Beverly Hellams with Comfort Keepers, Pam, Crystal, Julio, Latoya, Kelly and all of the caring staff at The Gardens at Eastside.  Hannah, Courtney, Bethany, Kendra, Shauna and dear Shadrian with Agape Hospice, and Carla, Fraser, Rita, Hollie and Chris Turner, RN with Brookdale Senior Living and Brookdale Hospice.  You all found ways to add joy to our mother’s final years and we are forever grateful for your efforts and abilities.

A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday February 2, 2019 at Simpsonville United Methodist Church, where Doris was a loyal member since 1965, having sung in the choir, gladly served as a Greeter, led the SUMC Seniors group and was a member of the Douglas Bible Class. The Douglas Bible Class will serve as honorary pallbearers at the service.

Immediately following the service, Caroline and Jill invite everyone to a reception to share their remembrances of Doris and enjoy some of her signature recipes. The reception will be held just down the street at 402 South Main St., Simpsonville.
