Alex E. “Shakey” Matthews

Alex E. “Shakey” Matthews, age 85, husband of Lorena Mostella Matthews, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at his home.

Born in Clinton, he was a son of the late Daniel Benjamin and Mabel Baker Matthews. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. Mr. Matthews was a member of Temple Baptist Church and was retired from Woodside Mill.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, Mr. Matthews is survived by three daughters, Linda Mobley and friend Marty Fowler, Judy Crocker and husband Butch, and Susan Stephens and husband Rick; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister, Idell Nix; and a brother, Buck Matthews.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Simpsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
