Richard Edward Sharp

Richard Edward Sharp 85 of Magnolia Crest Drive, passed away after battling cancer Monday August 13, 2012 at the home of his daughter, Cynthia Sharp Buttram. Richard was born May 4, 1927 in Detroit, MI the son of Clarence Edgar and Helen Wasielewski Sharp, and later, stepson of James Morrison. He apprenticed as a plumber and was an Army veteran of the Korean War where he served with distinction in Europe before honing his trade as a member of Plumber’s Local 98. He served for many years with Robert Carter Corporation in mechanical engineering before his retirement in 1989.

He was married on November 6, 1954 in Roseville, MI to Nora Lottie Mae (Vickie) Hinson Vargo who survives him. Surviving is one brother, Robert Sharp and sister-in-law Jackie Sharp of Farwell, MI; three daughters Constance Vargo-Sharp Stanley of Waco, TX, Cynthia Sharp Buttram of Simpsonville, SC and Cherie’ Sharp Smith of Rensselaer, IN; four grandchildren Monica Stanley Mathis of Waco, TX, Andrea Stanley McKenzie of Waxahachie, TX, Megan Marie Smith of Oakland, IL and Evan Michael Smith of Muncie, IN; two sons-in-law Kerry Buttram of Simpsonville, SC and Kenin Smith of Rensselaer, IN. He was predeceased by one son-in-law, Richard Stanley, of Waco, TX.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Cannon Funeral Home – Jones Chapel, 603 West Curtis Street, Simpsonville. A graveside service will be held at the MJ “Dolly” Cooper Memorial Veteran’s Cemetery in Anderson immediately following the funeral service. Family visitation will take place from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Cannon Funeral Home – Jones Chapel, 603 West Curtis Street, Simpsonville. The family wishes to thank the wonderful medical professionals and caregivers who helped along the way throughout Richard’s illness. Open Arms Hospice provided consistently helpful navigation in these uncharted waters. Through them and many others the family received many healing touches through compassionate comforters who have themselves experienced “the God of all comfort” and have stood alongside Dad and all of the family in prayer in this continuing work of grace.
