Thomas Caldwell Mattison

Thomas Caldwell Mattison, 61, of Fountain Inn, SC stepped into our Father’s Kingdom on March 29, 2011. Tommy retired in October 2008 from Michelin Americas Research & Development after 32 years of service. Tommy was a member of Five Forks Baptist Church in Simpsonville. He was part of a group of friends that helped establish the FI Recreation Department in the early 1970’s, he loved coaching football when he was younger, and later enjoyed playing golf when he found the time. He spent his short retirement time enjoying his family and remodeling the family’s kitchen.

Tommy is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margaret Harper Mattison; his sons Thomas Bradley Mattison, wife Katie and grandchildren Kylie and Mason of Simpsonville; Brian Tyler Mattison of the home; and nephews, Jonathan and Matthew Harper also of the home; his mother, Wilma King Mattison of Simpsonville and nephew, Ryan Mattison of St. Augustine, FL. He also leaves behind brothers-in law, James A. Harper and wife Jean, Donald E. Harper and wife Jane, and Johnny R. Harper, and numerous loved nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and other family members whom he loved very much. He was predeceased by his father Denver Mattison and his brother Terry Wayne Mattison.

Tommy was blessed by many friends whom he loved and who loved him and to all those friends his family sends their thanks. Many thanks to his friends from MARC who have been so supportive during this difficult time, to Simpsonville Elementary School for their love and support, and to Pastor Howard Foster and Five Forks Baptist Church. A special thank you to his hospice nurse, Betty Strawhorn, and his Home Health Care Nurse, Judy Cordell for their care, concern, and spiritual support, and to his doctor, Kim Gococo, for his medical expertise and compassion during this difficult time.

Visitation and services are planned for Friday, April 1, 2011, with visitation from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. and services at 2:00 p.m. at Five Forks Baptist Church .
