Clyde David (Pete) Jenkins, Jr.
Clyde David (Pete) Jenkins, Jr., died Saturday August 29, 2009, at National Health Care in Mauldin, SC.
He was born in Greenville County, Jan 31, 1923, a son of the late Clyde D. Jenkins, Sr. and Floridi Austin Jenkins. He was a 1943 graduate of Clemson College, World War II Veteran serving with 334th Engineer Regiment as well as Training Officer, 9th Group at Fort Leonard, Wood, MO.
He was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1953-1966. During this time he was elected Chairman of S. C. Agricultural Committee as well as Secretary of the Greenville County Delegation. He was trustee of Fork Shoals High School, President of Fountain Inn Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, Chairman of Fork Shoals Baptist Church Deacon Board, Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer of Fork Shoals Baptist Church, a Director of BB & T Bank, Regional Director of the Carolina Region for American Heritage Life Insurance Co., a Director of Greenville County Livestock Association, President of Community Marketing Association and a member of Erskine College Board of Counselors.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-three years Elizabeth Rainey Jenkins; daughter Susan Jenkins of Falls Church VA; son Clyde David Jenkins, III of Greenville, SC; grandsons Joseph H. Patrick, III and wife Emily of Rock Hill, SC, David Jenkins Patrick and wife Emily of Greenville, SC, John Rainey Patrick and wife Rebecca of Greenwood, SC; great grandchildren Mary Laurel, Joseph and Lucy Caroline Patrick and Ella Grace Patrick; sisters Jean Boyd of Simpsonville, SC and Helen Mullinax and husband Wally of Greenville, SC and a number of nieces. He was preceded in death by his elder daughter Mary Deck Jenkins Patrick wife of Joseph Howard Patrick, Jr.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept 1, 2009, at Fork Shoals Baptist Church with Pastor Marion Lancaster officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at Cannon Funeral Home, Fountain Inn, SC.
