Rosa Hill Yonce
Rosa Hill Yonce, age 91, beloved widow of the late G.V. Yonce, Jr., passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017.
Born in Cofield, NC and raised in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Roland and Jennie Scott Hill. Mrs. Yonce graduated from Longwood University where she played basketball and was an active Zeta Tau Alpha sorority member. She was a 4th grade teacher and homemaker. She was a member of Fountain Inn Presbyterian Church and formerly a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cumberland, Maryland. She was devoted to her family and her passions were cooking, baking, and working in her yard. Preparing delicious meals and desserts was her love language. She had a listening heart and always had time for other people.
Mrs. Yonce is survived by son, William Scott Yonce (Stephanie Cupler Yonce); two daughters, Jennie Yonce Gray (Charles “Buddy” Gray) and Katherine Yonce Broderick (Larry Broderick); six grandchildren, Françoise Yonce, Kiely Yonce (Yuki), Caroline Gray, Rachel Gray, Lauren Broderick, and Amy Broderick; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hill and Sidney Yonce Hunter; a brother-in-law, Ernest Gates; beloved nieces and nephews; and her faithful caregiver, Audrey Jackson. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Hill Yonce; two sisters, Ida Hill Freeman and Virginia Chapman; and three brothers, Thomas Hill, Scott Hill, and Winfield Hill.
A memorial service will be conducted by Reverend Dr. Steve Mays on February 25th at 1:00 PM at the Cannon Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will follow the service.
