Charles Allen Nickles
Charles Nickles, 69, of Greenville, devoted husband of Tracy Dabney Nickles, went to be with the Lord and His Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 28, 2025 while at home surrounded by his family.
In addition to his wife, Tracy, he is survived by their children, Elizabeth, Laura Coleman, and Wilson (Dr. Pierce Bishop); one brother, Dr. John Kenneth Nickles (Barbara); and two sisters-in-law, Ann Nickles, Margaret Nickles, and many loved nieces and nephews.
Born in Greenville, Charles was the son of the late Dr. George Kinman & Ouita Fae Nickles. He was preceded in death by three brothers, George McLeland Nickles, Robert William Nickles, and James Andrew Nickles. Charles was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church Greenville where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and usher. He was a 1974 graduate of J.L Mann High School and graduated from Wofford College in 1979.
Charles enjoyed cheering for the Atlanta Braves, watching National Treasure movies, ordering an All-Star Special from Waffle House, and drinking a big cup of coffee. Surrounded by animals throughout his life—dogs, cats, horses, sheep, rabbits, and quail—he always appreciated their company. His sense of humor and kindness never left him. Even in his final days, he joked with visitors and sincerely thanked every care provider by name.
Charles was born and raised to love the outdoors- especially the family farm where he taught his children to fly fish, camp, and hunt. This was a passion that was passed down to him and his four older brothers by their father. Though he loved the outdoors, no love compared to that of his family. He never missed any of his kids’ events or any opportunities to tell each one how proud he was. As his children grew, he became even more tender.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 from 2:30 – 4:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church Greenville, 200 W. Washington St, Greenville, SC 29601.
The memorial service will follow at 4:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Claire Ripley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: Cancer Survivors Park Alliance at www.cancersurvivorspark.org; the Contemporary Worship Music Ministry, First Presbyterian Church Greenville, 200 W. Washington St, Greenville, SC 29601; or the Women’s Ministry of ChristChurch Presbyterian, 510 S. Tibbs Rd, Dalton, GA 30720.
