Gordon Alfred Methvin

Gordon Alfred Methvin, 83, of Simpsonville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 15, 2025.

Born in League City, Texas, he was a son of the late Gordon and Leona Methvin. He was married to Dianna for almost 50 years and later remarried Jo, sharing another ten years together.

Professionally, Gordon spent many years working for Exxon Mobil, where he excelled and made significant contributions. After retirement, he always had some project going. He loved landscaping and had a gift for making anything grow. But more than that, he was a true artist, shaping homes, offices, and public spaces with his vision. Through decks, borders, and carefully designed landscapes—he crafted beauty and harmony in every space he touched. He stayed active even in his later years, and his dedication to his family was evident in his role as a loving grandfather and great-grandfather. Not only could you always count on him as a son, friend, brother, or father for help or advice—and he was pretty good at dominoes. His friendly nature and love for travel allowed him to experience many parts of the world. And he never took the same route twice.

He is survived by his son, Steven (Glenda) Methvin; grandchildren, Sarah (Jordan) Poss, Gordon (Sarah) Methvin, Travis (Alexa) Methvin, and Troy (Shannon) Methvin; great-grandchildren, Sophie Poss, Joseph Poss, George Poss, Michael Poss, Jack Poss, Thomas Methvin, Trevor Methvin, Trent Methvin, and Christopher Methvin; brother, Dr. Stephen Don (Louann) Methvin; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Methvin.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary D. Methvin; granddaughter, Amanda Methvin; great-grandson, Samuel Methvin; and a brother, Gary W. Methvin.

His presence in our lives was a blessing, and we are grateful for our memories. He will be a welcome addition in heaven, and we will see him again.

The Memorial Service to celebrate Gordon’s life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM at New Covenant Church in Port Arthur, TX. The church is located at 2601 Hwy 73 West, Port Arthur, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the New Covenant Church Building Fund at https://pushpay.com/g/newcovenantportarthur.
